Prosecutor: 28-Year-Old Man Charged with Murder in Fatal Stabbing

A 28-year-old male has been charged with murder and related charges stemming from last week’s fatal stabbing of a man in Neptune City, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago and Neptune City Police Department Chief Matthew J. Quagliato jointly announced on Monday.

Zhahiem Spann, of Ocean Township, has been charged with first-degree murder, fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon (knife), and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The case background …

On March 4, at 11:31 p.m., Neptune City police responded to a report of a stabbing outside a residence in the vicinity of the 200 block of West Sylvania Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 24-year-old male, suffering from stab wounds.

The victim, later identified as Kaylib Paul of Neptune Township, was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Paul would later succumb to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Wednesday, March 5.

An investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Neptune City Police Department determined Spann was responsible for the stabbing.
