Prosecutor: 24-Year-Old Area Man Indicted on Attempted Murder, Weapons Charges

A 24-year-old area man has been indicted on attempted murder and weapons charges stemming from a September shooting incident, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Friday.

Zion J. Langhorne, of Tinton Falls, has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon (handgun), second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree certain persons not to possess a weapon, and second-degree eluding in connection with the incident.

The case background …

On Saturday, Sept. 13, at 5:04 p.m., Asbury Park police responded to the 1200 block of Washington Avenue on a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, detectives determined three shots were fired from a vehicle at a group of individuals. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

An investigation involving members of the MCPO Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department identified Langhorne as the person responsible for the shooting incident, and law enforcement performed a motor-vehicle stop of Langhorne later that same day.

While stopped by law enforcement, Langhorne fled the scene, ignored commands to stop, and committed multiple motor-vehicle violations while posing a risk to others.

After a fugitive investigation by the U.S. Marshals Task Force, Asbury Park Police Department, and Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Langhorne was arrested and taken into custody on Thursday, Sept. 18.
