They call it Family Night now. But, the Wednesday night of each Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair is forever Firemen’s Night to any kid who grew up hearing sirens blaring through the streets where they lived on that eve that welcomed and honored firefighters from near and far to the fair grounds.
Oh, all those emergency responders from departments all over the state still flock to the fair on that one night. And for a firetruck enthusiast, or just any kid, little or big, who loves those sentimental fair sounds, this is the height. For families, it’s the discount on ride tickets that may be the draw nowadays.
But, truth told, those shiny firetrucks with their flashing lights, whirling down the streets and all lined up is a reflective reminder of what really matters — those little things, like that sound of a siren and flash of lights, letting you know that all is well in your hometown.
Take a look back at a couple of recent Firemen’s Nights on the year without a fair … (and don’t forget to click to enlarge!)
