In keeping with the theme that “anything is possible when you start the school year off on the right foot,” a new event dubbed Greet the Teachers kicked off the school year at Fair Haven’s Viola L. Sickles School.
Kindergarten through third grade teachers, their new students and parents all participated in the inaugural event on Sept. 7, the first day of school.
Starting at 8 a.m. on the McCarter Park Field (across from Sickles) and on the school grounds for kindergarten students, teaching staff along with Sickles School Principal Cheryl Cuddihy and Fair Haven Schools Superintendent Sean McNeil met and greeted students and parents in a casual, festive atmosphere.
After the students and teachers had gotten to know one another, Sickles School vocal music teacher Vince Mottern, dressed in an RFH band uniform, replete with plumed hat, led the students and teachers of first through third grades toward the school building where they began their first day of the school year.
As Mottern, in full band regalia, stopped and greeted each of the incoming students in front of the school as they entered, a second grader asked how he too could “get a hat like the one you are wearing.” “Well, by joining the RFH marching band!” Mother answered.
