“It is wonderful to see the musicians and performers at the concert and listen to their selections,” Fair Haven’s Knollwood School Principal Amy Romano said recently about the school’s annual Chamber Music Recital.
The evening, set on March 22, was presented by the Fair Haven School District and the Knollwood School Music Department.
It featured a showcase of student instrumental and vocal talent in performances of an array of songs from the classic and solemn, with Bittersweet Symphony, to exuberant and contemporary, with Crazy Little Thing Called Love.
There were solo performances of French Folk Song, Can Can, and Ode to Joy with Christine Longley playing violin and Loch Lomond and Sunny Skarecki playing clarinet.
Group performances were: Bittersweet Symphony, Abby Gredell, violin, Aaron Bernstein, piano, Connor Medrow, drums; One for Daddy-O, Johanna Krueger, alto saxophone, P.J. Rawlings, trumpet, Kyle Gavlick, trombone; The Schuyler Sisters from Hamilton, the musical, vocal performance by Sophie Barabas, Addie Cope, and Darby Metz; Rosin-Eating Zombies from Outer Space, Bobby Hoye, violin, Abby Gredell, violin, Johanna Krueger, violin, Nora Doonan, violin, Megan Elgrim, viola, Maggie Volker, viola, Anna Jones, cello; Menuetto, Aaron Bernstein, oboe, Amelia Thomson, clarinet; So Danco Samba and Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Aaron Bernstein, flute and oboe, Amelia Thomson, clarinet), Charles Newbury, bass guitar, Connor Medrow, drums; Hunters Chorus, Sophie Barabas, trumpet, P.J. Rawlins, trumpet; Blues in the Closet and Funkytown, Matt Cruz, alto saxophone, Sophie Barabas, trumpet, Ryan McKay trombone, Abby Gredell, piano, Ben Plesser drums.
The traditional grand finale of the yearly Chamber Music Festival is a set by eighth-grade musicians. The eighth graders, who brought down the house with Revelation and Gold on the Ceiling were: Andrew Appezzato, baritone saxophone, Bobby Steets, trumpet, Colin Gray, horn, Michael Paolantonio, bass guitar, Jacob Gerbman, drums.
The evening’s performances were directed by Knollwood School Band Director Sara Marino, Orchestra Director Mel Chayette, and Vocal Director Karen Hauge.
“I would hear tidbits of their songs during rehearsals and was excited for this evening’s concert,” Romano said. “We have such talented students here at Knollwood!”
