Yes, spring has sprung. The buds are budding. And when it comes to seeing the river for the trees, the view is always the most flattering panoramic close-up of sunshine on an old friend.

It always smiles back and reaches out to hold with a tight hug. The buds on the trees branch out pulling you in to a new season, new day down by the river.

In Memoriam: Longtime Little Silver Resident, U.S. Navy Vet, Roger Fitzsimmons, 91

“To his friends and family, Roger was known for his quick wit and great jokes. You could tell one was coming when he would get a little twinkle in his eye and start elbowing the person next to him while winking. His ability to tell stories and jokes to the young and old of the family was a special talent. It often left you with his infectious laughter ringing in your ears and a new understanding of the phrase ‘when Irish eyes are smiling.'” ~ family of Roger Fitzsimmons

Longtime Little Silver resident Roger J. Fitzsimmons passed away peacefully at his home on April 7. He was 91.

This week, as construction work on the Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge replacement continues, Monmouth County officials advise that work will be done during more expanded hours this Monday through Friday. from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., weather permitting.

Specifically, travelers in the area should anticipate some added travel time and be aware of …

Construction vehicle activity in close proximity to the bridge. This means …

  • Temporary delays are possible on any contractor work day as construction vehicles enter and exit the work areas.

The continued closure of the sidewalk on the eastbound side of the bridge. This means …

  • The sidewalk on the south (eastbound) side of the bridge will be closed until further notice. Sidewalk users must use the north (westbound) side walkway to cross the bridge.

The continued work activity in the Shrewsbury River. This means …

  • Bridge replacement work is ongoing on both sides of the river south of the bridge.
  • The 65-foot navigational channel width is expected to remain in effect until the fall 2023.
