Fair Haven’s annual borough-wide campout may no longer be a summertime easy, sticky living event, but a first is always a warm memory. This one, back in 2013, was that first.
Reprise … just because it’s time to sizzle, sparkle and boom in the summertime …
Back in the summer of ’65 … the heat was on in Fair Haven, and some pint-sized bathing beauties were set to walk the walk, if the suit and the bathing cap fit. In the spirit of the season, call them little firecrackers. Celebrity neighborhood sparklers. Whatever the name, they were set for a good, simple backyard game. This one was easy — the suited up line-up. On cue, they struck the pose and gave a big “Cheese!”
The boom of July 4th festivities is set to ignite some fun in the Rumson-Fair Haven area.

Nothing says community spirit like a face full of dirt and smashed eggs on your Sunday casual best. Well, nothing like Fair Haven Fire Department’s (FHFD) Old Timers’ Day, anyway. Add to that the fact that the young ones from back in the day are now the old timers and the losers … of the traditional baseball game that is the day’s focal point.
No, this is not just another fish story. It’s more like a biggest catch boo hoo. It’s all about a father-daughter dance around a couple of fish. Call it, instead, a tale of two fish … and Fair Havenites.

A River Rats reprise to mark the official start of summer …
It’s smooth sailing into summer — maybe a bit too smooth … right into that heat. But back in 1975, the river road could be a bit rocky. At least one little river rat had to patch up a Blue Jay with bubble gum. Rats! That would be little Claire Hurd. Sailing rats all learned how to improvise, for sure. They also learned how to tie a square not like a real sailor.

The sun shone brightly on a festive Fair Haven Day Saturday.
All gathered in Fair Haven Fields for the annual birthday bash for the borough in the spirit of community, organized and sponsored by the non-profit Foundation of Fair Haven. The fields were flush with friends, family, volunteers, music, games, food, drink and even a stilted juggler — all celebrating Fair Haven and some togetherness.
It’s Fair Haven’s 113th birthday. And, while the birthday is not a milestone, the borough is being celebrated on, or around, every birthday since its 100th. The birthday bash, also marking the start of summer, billed as a community togetherness day, is called Fair Haven Day. And it’s tomorrow — Saturday.
With the storm that ripped through Fair Haven last night still leaving 268 residents without power, a charging and cooling station has been opened.
Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) crews have been working around the clock to restore power across our town following the recent storm. As of this morning, 455 homes remain without power, with 11 transmission outages still being addressed. While we are prioritizing all restoration efforts, significant resources are being directed to a critical outage in the Kemp, Linden, and Fair Haven Road area, affecting 277 households. Rest assured, JCP&L is committed to resolving every outage across Fair Haven as swiftly as possible.

From the Fair Haven Fire Department …
Starting yesterday at 2 PM and ending at 4:30 this morning the fire department and first aid squad responded to at least 13 incidents:
11 Wires Down or Carbon Monoxide Alarm Calls
2 EMS Calls
And as that storm rolled in, squad members were also practicing splinting femur fractures at their monthly drill.
The storm that ripped through Fair Haven Thursday night left downed wires and trees and some panic over a lack of 911 response.
After residents took to social media out of a sense of exasperation over where to turn, the borough’s Mayor Josh Halpern issued a statement citing that, among other things, residents should forego an apparently non-functioning 911 and go back to calling the original police station line at 732-747-0992 and pressing 0 for dispatch to report downed wires and other related emergencies.
More than 1.300 homes lost power and transformers were blown. The mayor said that with emergency services and JCP&L dispatched, work had begun as of 10 p.m. to stave off dangerous situations first and then begin restoration of electricity.
