A Thursday night motor vehicle accident in Ocean Township that resulted in the death of a pedestrian is under investigation, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Friday.

At 8:18 p.m., Ocean Township police responded to the area of Route 35 and Valley Road for a reported pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 38-year-old male was walking in the roadway on the southbound side of the highway when he was struck by a 2015 Jeep Wrangler driven by a 66-year-old female driving in the left lane.
The pedestrian was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at 8:59 p.m.
The driver operating the Wrangler remained on scene.
An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Ocean Township Police Department remains active.
No charges or summonses have been issued with regard to the incident at this time.
