A Fair Haven icon is back in her iconic spot, the coffee’s on again and all is right with Booskerdoo Coffee & Baked Goods Co. lovers — in a no-contact app-inspired way.
The popular little java haven on River Road has been well-trafficked with townies and over-the-borders lovers of the locally-roasted brew and baked goodies since its opening in 2013. Along with the opening came Fair Haven icon Trudi Williams, who became a beloved barista while working at the location’s former Java Stop. But the small shop had to close its doors when NJ Gov. Murphy issued a statewide stay-at-home edict.
The shop was eligible to stay open, but it’s very close quarters inside and social distancing was rendered impossible if not, optimally, difficult. So, Booskerdoo owners James and Amelia Caverly figured out a way to serve up some of their java comfort to the COVID-19 quarantined masses.
They created an app on which customers must place their orders. The customers then must line up at a 6-foot distance and wait for their names to be called. It’s more like a sidewalk-side pickup rather than the actual curb. Waves to barista Trudi are allowed.
Trudi is well-known and a hugger and chatter, and people love a good chat, smile and embrace from her, so the new pandemic era serving method is a stretch, literally, but a must in safe socialization. It will do for all, as the sight of a friendly townie barista face and comfort of a favorite cup of java is just what the hometown solace doc ordered.
Fair Haven Council President Susan Sorensen, a big Booskerdoo and Trudi fan, got on socially distanced line to get her brew this morning. Before the reopening, she posted, “Even though we are making our Boo coffee/tea at home…it is not the same as seeing Trudi Williams and the rest of the Booskerdoo team …”
