The cause of a pedestrian being fatally struck by a motor vehicle in Spring Lake Heights is currently under investigation, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago and Spring Lake Heights Police Department Chief Edward W. Gunnell announced in a joint statement on Sunday.

The water rescue units of the Rumson and Fair Haven First Aid squads made their inaugural water run of the season with the Nav-e-Sink or Swim race patrol out of Victory Park in Rumson today.
Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial start of summer are upon us; and, Monmouth County authorities are being proactive about sober driving as the DWI Task Force, in cooperation with local police, plans two weekend DWI checkpoints starting tonight, the Monmouth County DWI Task Force announced.
Summer has not yet arrived, but DWI checkpoints are making their seasonal comeback on Friday.
The first in Monmouth County will be held starting on Friday night through early Saturday morning in Neptune Township, the Monmouth County DWI Task Force announced.

Thursday marked the start of the Police Unity Tour. The tour, trumpeting the motto, “We Ride for Those Who Died,” takes hundreds of current and retired police officers from all over New Jersey on a bicycle ride to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington DC in honor of fallen law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Each cycling officer rides in memory of a particular fallen one. Each year, the officers embark on the tour from a different Jersey spot. This year, they left from Mercer County.

A dank, dark Sunday didn’t stop those running for the cause of shining a light on suicide prevention awareness in the annual Ridge Road Run 5K. And some of Rumson’s finest were among the many sprinting into the support effort — specifically, three police officers.
