Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge Travel, Construction & Tides Advisory

Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge replacement activity is on its status quo construction hours schedule, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with expanded work days through Sunday, May 11, weather permitting. The precise construction that is scheduled is listed below. Shrewsbury River tides and travel advisory information is also included.

Monmouth County officials have announced the following travel advisory information for the bridge and surrounding area. Specific construction activities are listed below the travel advisories

On the Shrewsbury River waterway …

There will be no bridge openings through May 8. The channel is  scheduled to be fully open for marine travel with horizontal clearance of 75 feet and vertical clearance of 15 feet at Mean High Water (MHW) and 18.5 feet at Mean Low Water (MLW).

There will be half-channel bridge openings from May 8 to 22.
One span, either east or west, will be in the down position on an as-needed basis, and the opposite half of the channel will be open with horizontal clearance of 37.5 feet and no vertical restriction.

• The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has jurisdiction over the navigational channel. USCG has granted permission for the partial closures of the channel and for the temporary deviation from normal drawbridge operations. Monmouth County must comply with the dates approved by the USCG.

• Dates and times are subject to change based on weather conditions and production factors.

On the roadways and sidewalks surrounding and on the bridge …

• All roadway and sidewalk travelers should be aware of construction and delivery vehicles entering and exiting the work areas on both sides of Rumson Road in Rumson and on the southbound side of Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright.

• Temporary delays are possible on any contractor work day due to movement of construction vehicles and equipment.

• The south side (eastbound) sidewalk of the bridge is closed.

Construction activities scheduled are:

  • Form, reinforce and pour Span 4 sidewalk;
  • Install interior finishes at control house;
  • Remove pavement and install drainage;
  • Install conduit at Rumson Road intersection;
  • Install span lock and machining;
  • Deck milling/grinding;
  • Deck shot blasting;
  • PPC overlay;
  • Control system commissioning;
  • Install 4-bar rail;
  • Install 4-bar rail — bascule span;
  • Install receptacles, lighting, tap boxes, CCTV and exterior lighting.

Sea Bright

  • Install MCCs, drive cabinets, PLC cabinet;
  • Install interior finishes at the gatekeeper house;
  • Form, reinforce and pour span 6;
  • Strip span 6 forms;
  • Form, reinforce and pour SE retaining wall stem;
  • Deck milling and grinding;
  • Deck shot blasting;
  • PPC overlay;
  • Install 4-bar rail — bascule span;
  • Install curb and sidewalk.
