Longtime Fair Havenite Richard Huff passed away on Aug. 23, “surrounded by loving family.” He was 86.
Richard was born to Gardner and Helen Huff in Chicago, IL. He attended Purdue University, IN. The Boilermakers and Delta Epsilon Fraternity remained an enthusiastic part of his life. Following graduation, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army, which brought him to Fort Monmouth.

“After the army, Richard moved to New York City and began his career as a banker, where he met the love of his life Joann. They married and moved to Asbury Park, and their daughters were born shortly thereafter.

“The young family then moved to Fair Haven, where they resided for 38 years. Richard retired as senior executive vice president and chief auditor of National Westminster Bank USA …
“Richard enjoyed sailing, golfing, coaching and passing time with family and friends. He spent many years and made memories at the Root Beer and Checker Club and Shrewsbury River Yacht Club. He loved entertaining and being entertained. Richard was a devoted husband, and nothing made him happier than spending time with his daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren.”
Richard is survived by: his wife, Joann; his daughters, Carey (John) and Gretchen (Zach); and four grandsons, Noah, Oscar, Aiden and Ezra.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 15, from 1 to 4 p.m., with a memorial service at 3:30, at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank, NJ 07701. A repast will follow.
