
Monmouth Beach resident, Maria H. Zifchak, formerly of Fair Haven and Rumson, “a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and a life defined by devotion to her family.” She was 86.
“A vibrant and active member of her community, Maria was a longtime member of the Monmouth Beach Bath and Tennis Club, where she served in many roles, and a member of the Navesink Country Club Nine Holers, where she earned the distinction of golf club champion. She was an active and dedicated member who formed many lasting friendships.

“Maria had a passion for shopping and a love of beautiful jewelry, which was reflected in her impeccable style each and every day. She will be remembered for her elegance, and the joy she brought to those around her. Maria’s love and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.”
Born on Jan. 3, 1940, Maria was the beloved daughter of the late Robert Harding and Florence Harding Azzolino. She attended Red Bank Catholic High School (RBC), where she met the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Donald Zifchak. They married and shared a long life together.
Maria went on to graduate from Cabrini College and after graduation and was a teacher in the Elberon schools system.
She was predeceased by: her husband, Donald Zifchak; her father, Robert Harding; her mother, Florence Harding Azzolino; and her stepfather, Santo Azzolino.
Maria is survived by: her loving children, Michelle Mindnich (David), Michael Zifchak (Elena), and Mark Zifchak (Tricia); her grandchildren, Christian, Caroline and Peter Mindnich, Courtney, Kendall, Luke, Michael and Anthony Zifchak; her brothers, Robert Harding Jr. (Chisato) and Phillip Harding; her sister, Rita Ronan (James); and many nieces and nephews who adored her deeply.
Visitation will be held at Holy Cross Church, 30 Ward Ave, Rumson, on Friday, April 17, from 10 to 11 a.m. A mass of christian burial will begin at 11. Entombment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
