Longtime Fair Haven-based, family-owned marine construction firm, Rice Associates, was recently recognized by River Rats, the borough’s 71-year-old non-profit educational sailing club, with what has been dubbed the Beacon of Light Award.
Presented for the first time, River Rats Skipper Jill Lynch noted the award is an altogether fitting tribute to a firm that has dedicated years of pro bono dock-building and maintenance services to River Rats.
“Our youth and adult sailing programs would not be in existence if it were not for community-oriented companies like Rice Associates. Thousands of people from all walks of life have learned to sail through River Rats, but it would not have been possible without the dedication and kindness of leaders like the Borello family (its owners).”
Glen, Anthony and Charlie Borello, owners of Rice Associates, were on hand to receive the award. “River Rats is a great organization,” Glen Borello said. “We do what we do because we believe in what River Rats does for the community. We are proud to be supporters.”
