Prosecutor: Pedestrian Killed in Fatal Accident; Investigation Underway

A Tuesday accident that resulted in the death of a female pedestrian is under investigation, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Friday.

On Tuesday, April 7, at 10:56 p.m., in Manalapan, township police responded to area of Route 9 South in the vicinity of 355 Route 9 and Russell Court.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a male driver was operating a 2018 Nissan Frontier travelling in the left lane on Route 9 South when his vehicle struck a pedestrian, propelling her to the right shoulder of the roadway.

The pedestrian, later identified as 72-year-old Deborah Ross, was pronounced dead on scene at 11:26 p.m.

The driver remained on scene.

No charges or summonses have been issued with regard to the incident at this time.

An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Manalapan Police Department remains active and ongoing.
