In Memoriam: Red Bank-Raised Longtime Little Silver Resident, Teacher, Rose Marie Accardi, 86

Rose Marie Accardi

Longtime Little Silver resident and teacher, Rose Marie Crupi Accardi, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 31, surrounded by her family. She was 86.

Born in Long Branch on Jan. 11, 1940 to Dominic and Isabella Crupi after their emigration from Calabria, Italy with their three sons, Rose grew up in Red Bank. There, she met her future husband, Joseph Accardi, as children through her older brother, Mario.

Before she was married, Rose attended Newark State College where she received her bachelor’s degree in education.

“‘Mrs. Accardi’ was a dedicated teacher of elementary school and later the after school program, working in schools for almost 60 years.

“When they were married in 1961, Rose and Joe built their forever home in Little Silver and raised three children there. Rose Marie’s greatest joy was her family. She regularly hosted the large extended family for her loved Italian meals on Sundays and holidays. All her life, Rose had a great appreciation for beautiful things and a sophisticated sense of style. Her and her young family were always well-turned-out, often in clothing she had designed and made with her mother. Her home was equally well styled, she loved to have fresh flowers on the table.

“In her golden years, she was a devoted grandmother to eight, always coming up with creative projects and activities to do, making them costumes, or calling just to check in. She loved her Lord and was a faithful congregant of Calvary Chapel Coastlands.”
