In Memoriam: Lifelong Rumsonite, What’s Your Beef Co-Owner, Barbara Bailey Russell, 76

Lifelong Rumsonite and co-owner of the iconic What’s Your Beef, Barbara Bailey Russell, passed away peacefully, on July 22, with her son, JP, by her side. She was 76.

The lifelong Rumson resident was the daughter of William and Ruth Bailey. She was in the hospitality industry for more than 50 years. From 1982 through 2016, Barbara was co-owner of What’s Your Beef.

“Barbara was known for her great sense of humor and quick wit. She was involved with the Rumson community, including participating in the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. Barbara was also a proud member of the Beaver Bash Club. Barbara had a great love of animals (especially dogs), gardening,
and traveling the world.”

Barbara was predeceased by her daughter, Denise Russell.

She is survived by: her son, John Philip (JP) Tucker; cousins, nieces and nephews; and her dog, Gigi.

A Memorial Gathering to honor Barbara will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a service at 6:30, at Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to the Monmouth County ASPCA in her memory.
