Weekly Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge Travel Advisory

Despite the steady stream of rainy weather through last week and into this week, this week’s Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge replacement activity remains status quo. Work on the bridge continues Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day, again, weather permitting, with a few new notes to roadway and sidewalk users. Note that the sidewalk across the bridge is fully open to pedestrians and bicyclists.

Monmouth County officials advise …

Roadway and sidewalk users should be aware of some changes in that area. This means …

  • Vehicles must keep the intersection area near the bridge clear of traffic. Note that recent pavement restriping in Rumson included a “Do Not Block Intersection” roadway marking (a large X inside a rectangle). During bridge openings or other situations, if vehicles back-up on Rumson Road, this area should remain clear to allow vehicles on Ward and South Ward Avenues to cross Rumson Road.
  • Temporary delays are possible on any contractor work day due to movement of construction vehicles and equipment.
  • All roadway and sidewalk travelers should be aware of construction and delivery vehicles entering and exiting the work areas on both sides of Rumson Road in Rumson and on the southbound side of Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright.

Waterway users should maintain an awareness of construction activity. This means …

  • Bridge replacement work activity continues on both sides of the Shrewsbury River south of the bridge.
  • The 65-foot navigational channel width is expected to remain in effect until the fall of 2023.
  • Please see the Public Notice for information on future changes to channel access.
