The R-FH Area Weekend: A Memorial Mass and A Reunion For All

With the chill in the fall air and thoughts starting to turn to turkey and football, old-school RFHers are thinking homecoming. November used to be the time of year for such a thing. And it’s happening in a couple different ways pre-Thanksgiving this year in Rumson.

On the same day, this Saturday, there will be two events that promise to be homecomings of different kinds, reuniting RFHers and friends for different reasons.

Saturday evening starts out at 5 p.m. with a mass at Holy Cross Church in Rumson honoring longtime iconic coaches, Hal Lorme and Tom Botti, and their wives. All four have passed away in the past 10 years, most recently in 2020.

It’s been a long time coming, organizer and family friend Fran Rooney Raffetto told R-FH Retro.

And after the mass on Saturday night …

While no repast will follow the mass, down the street at the iconic Val’s Tavern, the RFH Class of ’90 will be celebrating its 35th reunion upstairs, starting at 7 p.m.

The catch is that after the class-only reunion upstairs, all from other RFH classes are invited to join in the reuniting fun downstairs at 9 p.m. with music by The Haven. People may also donate to the Keith McHeffey Foundation.

Check it out … Ahem … There’s no mention of RFH classes of the ’60s and ’70s on the flyer or publicity for the event, but we’re guessing it’s OK for we old codgers of the dinosaur days of RFH to show up — if we can make it past our bed times.
