Touchdown! Cheer! They’re on a major winning streak. The RFH Bulldogs are going for the football playoff finals in a home game against Wall on Friday night.
And, as always, there will be a lot of cheering on of the team. That is not only done by those in the bleachers at Borden Stadium. There are cheerleaders, lest we forget.
So, in the interest of giving equal time to the RFH cheer team of the football season, the Retro Pic of the Day zooms in on the cheerleaders of the past.
The cheerleaders of the present look a lot different than they did in the day of the, shall we say, RFH dinosaur. But, hey, a good cheer and classic look is never forgotten, either. So, take a gander. This above photo features the varsity cheerleaders of RFH in 1975-76.
Notice how the captains of the squad’s letters are RF only and they’re in white? Hmmm …
And then there were those catchy cheers with all that stomping, pom-pomming, clapping and megaphones. Aaaaaand “Hey, purple! Hey white! You look so good to meeeeee … Hey, hey, hey purple, hey white …” Who remembers one? Don’t be shy now!
Recognize these girls?
What do you miss about the role of the cheerleader in the past versus the present? What do you like better now about the cheering squads and what is now a dance team?

My sister Carrie Doremus was there that year. I recognize Edna Mae Waters in the right front row. She was one of my sisters best friends and has unfortunately passed.
Thanks for sharing.
