An accident that killed a scooter driver is under investigation, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Tuesday.
On Monday, May 25, at approximately 5:50 p.m., Wall Township police responded to the intersection of Route 35 and Belmar Boulevard on a report of a vehicle-versus-scooter crash.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a female driver operating a 2024 Kia Seltos was traveling south in the right lane of Route 35 when her vehicle struck a man operating a 2022 Buddy Kick 125 Scooter as he was attempting to turn left onto Route 35. The collision propelled him onto the southern part of the roadway.
The 47-year-old scooter driver was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:50 p.m.
The driver remained on scene.
An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Wall Township Police Department remains active.
