Memorial Services Set for Former Longtime Rumsonite, Don Devine, 89

Former longtime Rumsonite, Donald Joseph Devine, more recently of Little Silver, passed peacefully on Sept. 19. He was 89, “at home, surrounded by loved ones, especially the love of his life, Denise Broderick Devine, his bride of nearly 60 years.”

Don, affectionately known as Slim, was a longtime resident of Rumson. Born in 1934 in Brooklyn, New York, he graduated from St. Peter’s Preparatory School and St. John’s University. He attended St. John’s University School of Law.

Don retired in 1988 as Chairman and CEO of Freeman Securities, a bond brokerage firm originally located in New York. He served as a past president of the Bond Club of New York. He was a current longtime member of Rumson Country Club and Sea Bright Beach Club. Don was a former member of Navesink Country Club and Monmouth Beach Bath and Tennis Club, where he served as vice president of the Board.

“Don’s priorities were simple and clear. He was a man of deep and abiding faith, a daily communicant who was never without his rosary beads. He was a selfless man who was eternally devoted to his family. Don was happiest when holding hands with Denise, surrounded by his loved ones and could always be found wearing a baseball cap on the sidelines of his grandchildren’s
many sporting events.”
