In Memoriam: Rumson-Raised RFH Alum, David John Kondrup, 67

Rumson-raised Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) alumnus, David John Kondrup, passed away, surrounded by his loved ones, on Dec. 26. He was 67.

Born in Red Bank, David spent most of his life in Rumson and lived in the Belford section of Middletown more recently, until his passing.

After attending RFH with the Class of 1973, he joined the U.S. Navy. He was stationed overseas at Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia where he was a Seabee and worked as a diesel mechanic.

After serving his country, David attended Brookdale Community College. After that, he started his own roofing company while serving in the Navy Reserve.

“When he learned how much his brother-in-law, Bob, loved being a truck driver, he followed in his footsteps and drove for both Covenant Transport and JB Hunt. When off the road, David could be found sitting by the stove making wisecracks. To David, family meant everything. His father was his best friend. He retired early so he could take care of his parents in their final years. Around this time, he found out he had COPD, a disease that would eventually take his life.
He spent his closing chapter in Belford with those he loved most — his family.
