Mary Gagliardi, “a treasured soul known for her loving nature and friendly demeanor,” passed away on February 20, 2026, at the age of 88. Her final days were spent in Rumson, where she passed, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family.

“Mary’s family was the cornerstone of her life; her strong bond with her sister Frances stood the test of time and she spent her life showering love on all her nieces and nephews.

“As a lifetime member of the YMCA, Mary was an early adopter of aerobics and yoga, staying active and vibrant throughout her years.

“Her porch, adorned with annuals, was a hub of laughter for all who visited. Mary’s legendary culinary skills brought together family and friends in celebration of life’s simple pleasures.

“An avid swimmer, she relished the times she could float in the ocean and dig her feet into the warm sand. Aruba was a favorite destination, a place of many happy memories with her husband and friends.

“Mary connected to her community through multiple senior groups, knitting circles, and weekly rummikub meetups. One of her most relished victories was achieving an impressive level 8,993 in candy crush, showing her dedication and playful nature.

“More than anything, Mary cherished the moments spent with her family. Her love for her husband, Johnny, was unwavering. It is a comfort to imagine them reunited, dancing in heaven, surrounded by loved ones. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Mary’s presence will be deeply missed, but the love she spread will forever be felt.”

Born on Sept. 20, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY, to Ida and Rudolf Scalici, Mary’s journey through life was one marked by joy, faith, and an indomitable spirit.

“Mary’s life was a testament to the strength of family bonds and determination to thrive. She was the beloved wife of the late John Gagliardi, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage and a lifetime of cherished memories. Their love story continues to inspire those who knew them.

Mary was a devoted mother to her son, John Gagliardi, and a caring mother-in-law to Patty Gagliardi, who survive her. She was adored by the grandchildren she leaves behind as well: Kate, Ali, Charlotte, and John Thomas Gagliardi, who will carry her legacy forward. Mary was also a beloved aunt, cousin, friend, and neighbor.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Ida and Rudolf Scalici; and her siblings, John, Joseph Scalici, and Frances Glessing.
