In Memoriam: Longtime Rumsonite, Judy Barrett Wolf

Longtime Rumsonite, Judith “Judy” Barrett Wolf, passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 23.

“Judy was a homemaker, amazing gourmet cook and enjoyed traveling with her family and friends. She was especially fond of the New York Times Crossword puzzles. In fact, she was a near professional placing first in The American Crossword Puzzle Tournament in 2017. She was also an avid reader of personal family history, and enjoyed leisure reading. Judy loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. “Grammy” will be dearly missed. She is now laughing and dancing with her husband in heaven … Judy was a loving, kind and generous soul
and she will be deeply missed.”

Born in Perth Amboy, she was raised in Keyport with her seven siblings and two loving parents. Judy graduated from Keyport High School in 1964.

Judy married the love of her life, William, in 1975, and “they spent 38 amazing years together,” family said in her obituary. “Together they raised their two sons in Shrewsbury before moving to Rumson in 1995. Judy was a constant help and companion to her husband in the early days of their company, Motion Systems Corporation.”

Judy was pre-deceased by: her husband, Bill; her parents, Eugene and Genevieve Barrett; granddaughter, Olivia Cohen; sister, Marian Barrett; and her two brothers, Eugene and William Barrett.

She is survived by: sons, Danny (Julie), Erik (Jennifer); step-children, Katherine Harris (Mark), Lara Cohen (Andrew) and Will; her loving grandchildren, Madeline, Andrew, Matthew, Isabelle, Dannielle, Gabby and Peyton; her brother and sisters, Jimmy Barrett, Susan Gryzb, Genevieve Bagnell and Carol Reilly; her Aunt Adele and Uncle Bill Wheatley; and her dear friends, Lolly and John Ekdahl.

Judy’s family would like to extend their gratitude to her caretaker, Stella.

Judy never wanted to be the center of attention, so her services will be private for immediate family only. Friends wishing to honor Judy are invited to make a donation in her name to Special Strides, 118 Federal Road, Monroe, NJ 08831, or you may visit their website at
