Tomorrow is not just another Saturday night. And you do have someone — a whole Fair Haven Fire Department community. It’s a traditional date.
The fire department’s Annual Angelo DePonti Memorial Spaghetti Dinner will be cooking from 5 to 8 p.m. at the firehouse at 645 River Road. The price is right, too, at $20 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under. It’s all you can eat spaghetti and homemade meatballs and sauce (recipe from the famed FHFD social member Angelo DePonti’s archives), Italian bread, salad and homemade desserts. It’s BYOB, but coffee, tea, and soda will be available.
Angelo DePonti wasn’t always in the kitchen. First it was the ladies who cooked, then it switched to the men cooking and the ladies serving. Then came Angelo. And, once he joined, he became an icon and the recipe evolved to his own shared with all. After Angelo passed away a few years ago, the name of the event changed to carry his legacy at the fire company.
That’s a little spaghetti dinner history. As for now … The folks of the Fair Haven Fire Department are poised and ready to serve up some community fun and gullets. See you there! Mangia!
