More than three decades ago, in 1993, a little girl got on the carousel at the Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair and took a ride.
She was beaming and waving as she rode ’round and ’round. The moment was captured in a black-and-white photo on, no less, a point-and-shoot film camera. It was developed in the darkroom of the now-defunct Courier newspaper in the days when you never knew what you captured until the roll was handed over to the head photographer for darkroom processing in the office.
In this case, it turned out to be a winning classic fair moment that says a lot about the more than century old month’s end Fair Haven tradition for which preparations are underway and opens Friday night. Sheer joy is over riding with that tradition is what this little girl is emulating.
So, the Retro Pic of the Day honors this little girl’s ride on the merry go ’round and many other fair moments like it.
The little girl would be in her thirties now. Anyone recognize her?
