Prosecutor: Pedestrian Dies From Injuries Sustained in Accident

A 34-year old Monmouth County woman has died as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle along Route 36 in Hazlet Monday night, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said on Tuesday.

The pedestrian, Crystal Vernon, of Hazlet, was crossing Route 36 eastbound, in a marked crosswalk at the intersection with Laurel Avenue, at 9:22 p.m. on Monday when she was struck by a 2004 Ford Freestar van, driven by Margaret Holtz, 67, of North Middletown. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:39 p.m.

Holtz had one 85-year-old male passenger in the car at the time of the accident. Neither was injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Fatal Accident Unit, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and Hazlet Police Department.
