An accident last week that resulted in the death of a male pedestrianis under investigation, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, March 18, at approximately 6:20 a.m., Matawan police responded to area of Railroad Plaza and Johnson Street.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a male taxi driver was operating a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country vehicle traveling west on Railroad Plaza when the vehicle veered off the left side of the road, striking a pedestrian and then a telephone pole.
The pedestrian, later identified as 62-year-old Osvaldo Dantas, was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries and died at 3:53 p.m.
No charges or summonses have been issued with regard to the incident as of yet.
An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Matawan Police Department remains active.
