A 36-year-old Middletown High School North teacher has pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of a student at his school, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Wednesday.
During a hearing held before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Henry P. Butehorn earlier this week, the teacher, Justin McGhee, of Ocean Township, who also served as the head girls’ basketball coach at Middletown High School North, pleaded guilty to a single charge of second-degree sexual assault.
The case background …
An investigation led by members of the MCPO Special Victims Bureau and the Middletown Township Police Department revealed that the alleged criminal conduct by McGhee began in late 2024. McGhee was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 28, and then placed on administrative leave by High School North’s administration.
Sentencing in the case has been tentatively scheduled to take place on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, at which time the state intends to seek a term of 5½ years in state prison, forfeiture of public employment, registration as a sex offender under Megan’s Law, and parole supervision for life, along with stipulations that McGhee refrain from any contact with the victim and that he be barred from Middletown High School North grounds.
This case is being prosecuted by Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Sevan Biramian of the MCPO Special Victims Bureau. McGhee is represented by Mitchell Ansell, Esq., Ocean Township.
