In Memoriam: RFH Class of ’71 Grad & Hall of Famer, Tim Costello, 68

Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) Class of 1971 graduate and Hall of Famer Timothy C. Costello passed away on June 24 at Riverview Medical Center. He was 68.

“A lover of all music, Tim often enjoyed playing the guitar.  He was a music trivia wiz and rock and roll collector.  Early Saturdays, Tim could be found on the golf course with his buddies.

He leaves behind a wealth of loving friends; and he’ll be missed by many at Val’s Tavern, where he
shared great stories and a few beers.”

Born in Red Bank to the late John and Gloria (Conway) Costello, Tim was known as a varsity football and basketball star. He held the track and field javelin record for many years and post-high school was inducted into the RFH Bulldog Hall of Fame.

Following high school, Tim attended the University of Dayton. An accomplished carpenter, Tim worked alongside many friends for Red Bank Union Local #2250 for 30 years.  

He is predeceased by: his siblings, Jackie Lake and Terry Costello and his nephew, Will Jakubecy.

He is survived by: his beloved wife, Carol Costello and his loving daughter, Kerry Costello; his dear siblings, John Costello and Joy Jakubecy and her husband Bill; and his sisters-in-law, Ann Farrell and Beth and Mark Bergslein. 

“Also surviving is a crowd of adoring cousins and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss his famous mustache kisses,” his loved ones said. 

Visitation will be held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, on Wednesday, June 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 1, at 11 a.m. Cremation will be private.
