
Red Bank-raised Red Bank Catholic High School (RBC) graduate, Judy Wolchak, more recently of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 16. She was 89.
Born Judith Emily Layton on Oct. 4, 1936 in Red Bank, in addition to RBC, she attended St. James Grammar School. After graduating from RBC, she worked as an operator for Bell Telephone Company for a few years before leaving to raise her children. She met her husband William J. Wolchak locally and, after getting married, they lived in Red Bank and Middletown before settling in Shrewsbury with their children, William and Kathleen.
“Judy particularly loved reading, mostly cozy mysteries. She also loved watching mystery movies on the Hallmark channel as well as Jeopardy and Dateline. She returned to work in local Hallmark card shops after her children graduated high school before retiring at the age of 62.

Judy was predeceased by: her husband, William; her sister, Anne Layton Binn; and her parents, Francis and Margaret (Patterson) Layton.
She is survived by: her children, William and Kathleen; her brothers, Frank (Elizabeth), of FL, and John (Jean), of Wall; and several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and great-grand-niece and nephews.
Memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 25, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30, at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Interment will be held on Thursday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
