Longtime Rumsonite Florence Bainton, more recently of Little Silver, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 24. She was 95.

She was born to William Joy and Mary Nelson in Flushing, NY, and settled in Rumson, where she lived for most of her life.

“Before Florence got married and took on the jobs of homemaker and taking care of her family, she owned a hat shop in Red Bank, Floy Joy’s Hat Shop, where she shared her keen eye for style with her customers. She was a proud communicant of Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven.”

She is predeceased by: her loving daughter, Mary Joy, who passed away in 1994; and her beloved husband, Robert Lewis. Robert, who passed away in 2002 and was the owner of B&B Beverage in Long Branch.
She is survived by her son, William and his wife, Anna.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at Nativity Church in Fair Haven on Sept. 16 at 11 a.m.. Interment will be private.
