Longtime Red Bank resident, George Doherty Jr., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25. He was 95.

Born on May 3, 1930, to George and Elizabeth Doherty, George’s early years were spent in Parkchester in the Bronx, “where he met the love of his life, Doris Moody.”

“George proudly served in the Korean War as a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy. George and Doris married in 1954. In 1961, they moved to Red Bank, where they built their lives together. He had a 26-year career with Bell Laboratories as an engineer and was a devout member of St. James Parish. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and great-grandfather.

He was predeceased by his wife, Doris.
George is survived by: his sons, Mike (Robin), and Bill (Heather); five grandchildren, Tom (Betsy), Maggie Seckar (Marek), Matt, Leah Scanlon (Brian), and Abby; two nieces, Jean Gaughan (Dan) and Allison Tortorete (Brian); and five great-grandchildren, Teddy, McKinley, Marcus, Madelyn, and Jaclyn.
A funeral mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Red Bank on July 11, at 10 a.m., followed by an interment of ashes at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the New Jersey Blind Citizens Association at https://www.njbca.org/donate.
