In Memoriam: Former Red Bank Resident, Ellen Farley, 86

Former Red Bank resident, Ellen Catherine Farley, passed away on Oct. 15 at Brandywine Assisted Living in Shrewsbury. She was 86.

Born in the Bronx, NY to Michael and Helen Weismiller, Ellen was a wife and mother. Ellen and her husband, Edward Farley, were married for 55 years before his death in 2020.

They raised their family in Lodi and moved to Red Bank in 2015.

When her children were young, Ellen was a homemaker. “She was actively involved in her children’s lives, always being available as a class mom at school and taking them to all their activities.” When her children were older, Ellen worked at Polifly Savings and then later as an assistant in an accounting firm.

“Ellen loved the NY Giants, crossword puzzles, ceramics, bowling and reading. Ellen’s real passion, however, was her family … Ellen had a big heart and an engaging personality. Everyone who met her left with a smile on their face. She was funny and always kind. Her Catholic faith was a source of strength but also guided her in being a wonderful human being who truly exemplified the teachings of Jesus Christ.”

Ellen was predeceased by: her husband, Edward, in 2020.

She is survived by: her loving children, Elizabeth Farley Murphy (Stephen), and Michael Farley; her cherished grandchildren, Owen and Patrick Farley, and Nichole, Sean and John Murphy; and her sister, Irene.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Oct. 26, at John E Day Funeral Home 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, 07701, from 3 to 7 p.m.. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m., at The Oratory Church of St. Anthony of Padua, 124 Chestnut Street, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
