The Sandy Hook Foundation, the nonprofit dedicated to the preservation of Sandy Hook’s natural, cultural and historic resources and visitor experience enhancement, has named two new members to its Board of Trustees, one a Rumsonite.
Jeff Walling, of Rumson, and Jeff Burman joined the board of the official nonprofit partner of the National Park Service at Gateway National Recreation Area, Sandy Hook Unit in January.
As members of the board, Walling and Burman will support the Foundation’s preservation and visitor experience mission.
“The Sandy Hook Foundation is excited to welcome both Jeff Burman and Jeff Walling as the newest members of our board,” said Pete Izzo, chairman of the Foundation Board of Trustees. “The Foundation is entering an exciting time of growth, not only within the organization, but in the importance of our relationship with the National Park Service. We look forward to leaning on Jeff and Jeff’s expertise and passion for our park as we move ahead.”
Jeff Walling

Jeff Walling, a Partner at KPMG, was born and raised in Monmouth County and now lives in Rumson with his wife, Elisa, daughters, Cecilia and Sofia, and their dog, Remi.
An avid outdoor enthusiast, Walling and his family spend much of their time enjoying the beaches, trails, and natural beauty of Sandy Hook. This connection has inspired his deep appreciation for this unique coastal resource.
Through his role on the Board of Trustees, Walling looks forward to leveraging his professional experience and lifelong connection to the area to support preservation efforts and help enhance the visitor experience for all who enjoy Sandy Hook.
Jeff Burman
Jeff Burman is Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary of the Fortitude Re Group of companies, which manages more than 100 billion dollars of insurance reserves and administers over four million insurance policies.
Since the company’sinception, Burman has overseen Fortitude Re’s legal, compliance, and regulatory matters, drawing on more than 25 years of experience in reinsurance transactions, regulation, and dispute resolution.
In addition to his professional leadership, Burman serves on the Board of Directors of Minds Matter NYC, the Board of Ambassadors of Food Allergy Research and Education, and is an ARIAS US Certified Arbitrator.
His interest in joining the Sandy Hook Foundation is deeply personal and rooted in a desire to help preserve the park and seashore for future generations and to contribute to the Foundation’s work in stewardship and conservation.
