An accident on Monday evening between a motorist and a bicyclist in Atlantic Highlands is under investigation, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Tuesday.
At approximately 5:45 p.m. on Monday, Atlantic Highlands police responded to the area of Route 36 and First Avenue on a report of a collision. There, first responders found an uninjured motorist, a 41-year-old male who had been driving an SUV, and a 45-year-old male bicyclist, who had sustained significant injuries.
The bicyclist was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized. The motorist remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
As of yet, no charges or summonses have been issued.
An investigation being led by members of the Atlantic Highlands Police Department, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Prosecutor’s Office remains ongoing.
