A fatal Tuesday evening accident in which a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in Freehold Township is under investigation, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Wednesday.
At 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, Freehold Township police responded to the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 9 several hundred feet north of the interchange with State Route 33. There they found the victim, a 61-year-old male, lying in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck that hit him remained on the scene.
As of yet, no criminal charges have been filed nor traffic summons issued to the driver in connection with the incident.
An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Freehold Township Police Department remains active.
