Prosecutor: Area Teen Charged with Attempted Murder in April Shooting

An area teen has been charged with attempted murder and related offenses in connection with an April shooting, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Friday.

Jahsaad Banks, 19, of Asbury Park, was charged with single counts of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose stemming from the shooting.

On Wednesday, April 9, at 6:54 p.m., Asbury Park police responded to the 1100 block of Atlantic Avenue on a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, detectives found five 9mm shell casings. There were no injuries as a result of this shooting incident.

An investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department identified Banks as the individual responsible for the shooting incident.

Banks was found and arrested on Wednesday, April 30, in Asbury Park by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Task Force. He was transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI), where he is being held pending his first appearance in Monmouth County Superior Court.
