Former longtime Red Bank resident, teacher’s aide and Lunch Break volunteer, Georgiana “Georgie” Louise Redick Terry passed away on June 22 in Raleigh, NC. She was 99.

Life, faith, and family

Georgie was born to Robert Redick and Henrietta Redick, and grew up alongside her sisters, Anita DeSilva and Jane Redick, and her brothers, Robert Redick Jr. and Louis Redick. She lived and was educated in Jersey City until her marriage to Bedell Terry on June 23, 1949. Soon after, she moved to Red Bank, where she would spend the bulk of her life before relocating to Raleigh in her late 80s.

With Bedell, she raised six children: Bedell, Deborah, Anita, Mary, Brenda, and Frank. Her love extended far beyond her own home —

Georgie was also “a mother” to friends and neighbors’ children, the kind of person you could count on, and the kind of presence that made people feel safe and seen.

Music, wit, and the everyday magic of a caring heart

A proud member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church, Georgie served as both a choir member and pianist.

“Music was a real joy in her life — she loved to play her piano and organ both in church and at home, and she was known for singing hymns with a beautiful, heartfelt spirit. Ask her, and she would sing for you. Georgie was also known for her sharp mind and her delight in everyday puzzles. She always had a newspaper nearby and could be found working a crossword puzzle with focused ease and a streak of playful wit. At home, she was an excellent gardener, and her hands seemed to bring order, beauty, and abundance to the world around her.

Service to others

Georgie nurtured generations of children as a teacher’s aide in the Red Bank school system. Her role required patience, attention, and genuine kindness — qualities she carried naturally into her work and her relationships.

She also volunteered at Lunch Break in Red Bank, a nonprofit that provides support and resources to those in need in the community. In addition, she enjoyed time with her sister-in-law and “running buddy,” Ann Terry, including trips to Atlantic City — part of the rhythm of friendship and joy that never left her life.

Letters, cards, and a legacy written in kindness

Georgie’s devotion was evident in the small, meaningful ways: the cards and letters she sent with beautiful handwriting, often accompanied by a check or cash for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her correspondence wasn’t just thoughtful, it carried encouragement, familiarity, and love that traveled far beyond the mailbox.

Georgie was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Redick Sr. and Henrietta; her sister, Anita Guischard; her brothers, Robert Redick Jr. and Louis Redick; and her husband, Bedell Terry Sr.

Georgie is survived by: her sister, Jane Fisher; her children, Bedell Terry (Jan), Deborah Boynton (Fred), Anita Taylor, Mary Rosebrock, Brenda Terry, and Frank Terry (Freda); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Darcy Holmberg (Lief), Kyle Terry, Chris Terry (Tabitha), Jason Terry (Zohar Yahya), Kevin Taylor, Brittani Taylor (Bryan), Vencent Notto Jr., Anita Notto Rouse (Aaron), Tiana Joyner (Cedrick), Rachel Terry, Aaron Williams, Daniel Terry (Brittany), and Tabitha Terry; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces.

Viewing and services will be held on Tuesday July 7, from 9:30 to 11: 30 a.m., at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701, with a funeral home service to follow at 11:45 and interment to at Monmouth Memorial Park in Tinton Falls.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Lunch Break, a nonprofit organization in Red Bank that provides support to those in need.
