In Memoriam: Former Longtime Little Silver Resident, Inger La Manna, 93

Former longtime Little Silver resident, Inger M. La Manna, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 10, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 93.

A service is set for Oct. 21 (see below).

Born in Brooklyn, NY to Alf and Hjordis Berge, Inger was the first-born of two children. She grew up in Sailors’ Snug Harbor on Staten Island and remained settled on Staten Island with her husband, John, where they raised their family until settling in Little Silver in 1973.

In August of 2013, Inger joined the Brandywine community in Shrewsbury, “where she received deeply appreciated kindness, respect, care and love, especially from her care manager, Mikeyla Thompson.”

“A woman with deep faith and love for God, she was a long-time member of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation in West Long Branch since February of 1976. As the go-to prayer warrior, Inger dedicated her Wednesday mornings to prayer group and her Saturdays as a volunteer with ‘Meal at Noon’ at the Second Baptist Church in Long Branch for over 20 years.

“Inger’s warm and friendly heart made her fit to be the church’s perfect welcoming committee and she went above and beyond to write a personal note to anyone new who visited or joined. Inger shared her spiritual guidance and wit in her writings for the monthly newsletter and became lovingly known as “The Erma Bombeck” of her church. Helping others in any way that she could, Inger volunteered in various additional advocacy and charity groups in her community.

“Passionately social, Inger loved to entertain and be surrounded by her family and friends, whether it was going out to lunch, spending time at the Peninsula House Beach Club in Sea Bright or hosting her much anticipated annual Christmas party with her always exquisitely decorated tree. She relished cooking for others and was known for her great lasagna, and her Norwegian
meatballs and waffles.”
