It’s not the musical Oklahoma, but the song “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning” certainly came to mind when seeing this snapshot from Fair Havenite Bill Heath, retired borough police officer and now a captain with SeaStreak Ferries.

Heath gave us a glimpse into the dawn with a picturesque view of the rising sun over the horizon from the ferry that takes many area commuters into New York City from ports in Highlands and Atlantic Highlands daily.

He captured the moment at 7 a.m. in Manhattan looking toward the Long Island City section of Queens, he said.

And what a prelude to the weekend it is …

The National Weather Service says that later this afternoon there will be a slight chance of showers, or precipitation, with temperatures reaching a high of 48 degrees. As the night falls, the showers will dissipate, the forecast says, and temperatures will fall to a low of 33. And just in time for Fair Haven’s Tree Lighting and Holiday Stroll.

The festivities begin with Santa’s arrival and tree lighting at 6 at Memorial Park and run through 8 p.m. with a holiday stroll through all the small businesses in the borough and treats throughout.

Saturday’s forecast calls for clear skies and a high of 39 degrees during the day and a low of 29 at night.

Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 46 degrees. Then, the rain comes on Monday.

Enjoy the weekend, folks! I’ll see you around the towns!
