Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School’s (RFH) all-time leading point scorer Brendan Barry has made it official. He signed his letter of intent to play Division One basketball at Dartmouth College.

RFH basketball coach Chris Champeau, family members, and well-wishers were on hand to witness the signing on April 28 in the high school’s lower library that caps Barry’s four-year varsity career at RFH — one that amassed 1,812 points, 431 assists, 306 rebounds, 277 successful three-point shots, and 258 steals in 107 games. A three-year starter, Barry now holds the RFH records for most career points, assists, and steals.

“Brendan Barry leaves RFH as the best player I’ve ever coached and the greatest in RFH history,” said Champeau. “He was humble and hungry and cared only about winning with his team.”

During this past season, Barry averaged 25.7 points and led his team to a 23-win season.

Among the highlights of his RFH basketball career:

• He led his team to its first-ever Shore Conference Championship victory over heavily favored Christian Brothers Academy – RFH earned the 2015 SCT title with a score of 50-24 (Barry scored 26 points in the second half of the game);
• Was 2016 Gatorade Player of the Year nominee, 2016 USA Today First Team All-State, 2016 MacDonald’s All-American Nominee, 2015 Asbury Park Press Player-of-the-Year, and 2015/2016 Asbury Park Press First Team All-Shore, All-County;
• Set a Boardwalk Hoop Showcase record by scoring an unprecedented 34 points during a 57-42 defeat of Point Beach in 2015;
• Received the 2015-16 Kerwin Award, and was the first RFH boys basketball player to be honored with this distinction;
• Scored a career-high 50 points to shatter the RFH single-game scoring record in a 71-49 victory over Middletown North on February 13;
• Scored 23 points in a 53-48 victory over Matawan High School on Jan. 22, becoming RFH basketball’s all-time leading scorer.

Barry was recruited by numerous schools, but selected Dartmouth for its basketball program and Ivy League education.

“Brendan will be truly missed but leaves behind a legacy of dedication, humility, and commitment that will serve as an example for ‘Bulldawg’ guards for generations to come,” Champeau added.

“He’s a ‘once in a lifetime’ kid and it was an honor to coach him.”

Brendan is the son of Colleen and Rich Barry of Fair Haven.
