Retro RFH Beached Surfers

Surfing moment with RFH Class of ’78 guys

With the sad loss of yet another RFH grad who loved nothing more than catching a wave and good times with great friends, we are reminded that there’s nothing like seizing a surfing moment — even if it’s on sand.

This outtake shot by George Day features a crew of surf-loving RFH guys from the Class of ’78. Oh, you’ve seen these wetsuitless daredevils before. Hey, they tried. But, down vests do better with sand. And when there’s no wave to be caught, sand’s up — and so is the little surfer boy on the elevated board. He was catching a wave of good buddies, one could say.

Many great moments for RFH surfer boys involved being beached for a bit. This is one of those moments. Sure, there was a winter chill in the air, but spirits were warm and, we think, probably ingested. Gulp.

So, here’s to riding a joyous wave in life with friends who lift you up and make the mischievous glint in you glow like a flamethrower! Thanks for carrying the surfer torch, Ben Hamilton, Billy Caldwell, Greg Weber. Ride and rest in peace.

Recognize these surfer dudes? What the heck are they up to? Caption, please …

Many thanks, once again, to the fabulous George Day for this classic RFH glimpse back in time!
