Prosecutor: 18-Year-Old Arrested, Charged with 10-Year-Old’s Murder

Eighteen-year-old Karon Council, the alleged killer of a 10-year-old Asbury Park boy, was apprehended on Sunday in Pompano Beach, Florida, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said in a released statement.

Council is scheduled to appear today in Florida Circuit Court in Fort Lauderdale for an extradition hearing to begin the process of being returned to Monmouth County to face murder charges in the shooting death of the 10-year-old, the prosecutor added in an update today.

A 16-year-old juvenile was arrested at Neptune High School last week for his alleged role in the murder.

“At this point in the investigation, it appears that neither the 10-year-old child nor his mother were the intended victims of this shooting,” a release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said. “The intended target was another occupant also present within the home.”

The juvenile was also charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Council will be housed at Broward Sheriff’s Office County Jail, then extradited to New Jersey to face charges.
