Police Week: Retro Fair Haven Police

A classic reprise for a reason …

It’s National Police Week.

As told in a previous Retro Pic of the Day, offering a glimpse way back to Rumson police of the past, the week honoring police all started back in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. The day started the national week of convergence on Washington D.C. to participate in events designed to honor fallen law enforcement officers.

It now starts with the Police Unity Tour — officers from all over the country riding bicycles to Washington, D.C. in honor of fallen officers — and culminates in the D.C. event. This kicks off a full week’s ode to police. That’s this week.

So, the Retro Pic of the Day, and all week, honors local police of the past and some of the present. Today’s photo offers a glimpse back to Fair Haven police. The photo, as seen on the walls in the police department, shows a lot of familiar faces from decades ago.

Remember what year this was? Do you remember who was chief at the time? Who in this photo is still in town? I can spot a couple.
