Longtime Rumson-Fair Haven area resident, Peg Scott, “finally yielded to the inevitability of growing old,” and passed away at the age of 94 on Oct. 27, at home surrounded by family, as was her wish.

Peg grew up in Milford and attended college at Earlham College, Richmond, IN. It was there that she met Richard Scott. The couple ws married on the day of the “great blizzard” of December 27, 1947, and settled in Dick’s hometown of Moorestown. They moved to the Rumson/FairHaven area in 1964 where they spent the remainder of their lives.

Peg “lived a full life, with a strong determination to remain young and active until the end. She enjoyed golf, tennis, and sailing, and was a source of fun and laughter to those who enjoyed these activities with her. She was active as a Girl Scout leader, and enjoyed her employment at EpiCurious in Fair Haven, and Rumson Roulette in Rumson. She was best known to her children, though, as a mother who loved them to the end, and who, time and again, would stretch the limits of her comfort zone in order to share their lives, and the lives of her grandchildren.”

She is survived by: her brother, Robert Bailey (Beth Schenck Bailey); her daughters, Meredith Brown, Cindy Herndon (Fred Herndon), and Susan Reghi Kelsey (Ralph Kelsey); grandchildren, Jennifer Brown Chim (Khanh Chim), Meg Herndon (Marshall Gagne), Pam Herndon, and Nathaniel Herndon (Lauren Stephens Herndon), Danielle Reghi (Abe Hawkins) and Malia Reghi; and seven great grandchildren, Isabella, Addison and Emma Chim, Thomas, Simon and Clare Gagne, and Liliana ‘Awa Reghi.

A memorial service will be held at the Rumson Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Nov.6, at 11 a.m. Those unable to attend in person will be able to access a livestream at rumsonpresbyterian.org (upcoming services or worship tab).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to cleanoceanaction.org (Rally for the 2 Rivers), or NTBG.org (National Tropical Botanical Gardens, Hawaii).
