Focus: Dock Daze of Crabbing

Sometimes all it takes to brighten a dreary day is a net, a fishing pole, a dock and some bait. It’s all about getting crabby.

No matter the catch haul, after a day of this at the Fair Haven Dock, someone fishing for some simple solace and smile will likely end up with a bucket of cheer called home —and some dinner.

It’s likely that if you grew up in Fair Haven you know that day well. You were lucky. You didn’t have to grow up in Fair Haven to know that day. It’s just all the better for you if you did. All the better if you knew so well the common occurrence of that simple day and the comfort of its forever connection to home in your heart.

It’s also likely that if you’ve had that day in your kid days, it’s a good thing that you came home to your mom with crabs and a smile. After all, at the end of the day, you had to explain why it was a good idea to duck out to the dock with her dinner chicken.

That’s OK, she knows you ended up with a lot more than a bucket full of crabs. You ended up with dock daze memories of home. So did she. And they’re vivid. Her baby slinging a bucket, net and pole over his shoulder, riding on is trick banana seat bike, whistling Fair Haven sunshine the whole way to the dock and back home … Always back home.

Remember your crabby moments. Take a look …
