Retro RFH Rainy Day Lounging

Since rainy days and Tuesdays sometimes get you down, it’s the perfect time to look back again on some upbeat lazy days of lounging at RFH as a junior. So, we reprise this Retro Pic of the Day originally posted in 2018 on, you guessed it, a rainy day …

Out came the sun on Monday. Then came the dank, drizzly rain on Tuesday. Everyone feels it. Even high schoolers. And everyone knows that usually with that dreary weather comes a little bit of an antsy, lackadaisical mood — especially for students cooped up in a high school all day. Yes, when it rains, it tends to pour mischief in the high school halls. Call it a little shut-in sickness.

But, back in the day, there was a remedy for what ailed RFH students when lazy, hazy days drenched with dismal weather set in. That remedy was the artfully 70s-style painted brick-and-pillar Junior Lounge.

Retro RFH Presidents’ Day

Call it an RFH Presidents Day tribute. There have been many — high school class presidents. And each RFH class has had its way of voting for and honoring its presidents.

Call it Halloween buddy system brooming. Remember the old buddy system? Trick or treating with a buddy to stay safe. Ever apply that theory in high school tricks with the only treat being the friendship and good ride through it all together?

Well, this gruesome twosome of best buds applied the system for some double trouble all in good ghoulish fun. Now that’s a special brand of mischief. You could say they were headed every witch way on this Halloween in the late 1970s, except to class.

The two would be Sue Brower and Bonnie Werner of the RFH Class of ’78.

So the double-dose Retro Pic(s) of the (George) Day feature them at their Halloween best.

Retro RFH Ghostly Gaggle

A Halloween reprise to honor the season of the ghost …

Scary season has set in. People in the Rumson-Fair Haven area aren’t just out raking leaves, either. They’re haunting up their homes, crafting costumes and getting into the spirit. So, why not add a little extra retro spooking from RFH students of the past?

BOO … who or what? It was all in the haunt for RFHers back in the 1970s. They started getting the Halloween party going early on and ended up with a pretty festive feast of ghouls on the grounds of the high school and, yes, beyond.

Some moments are meant for just lounging … like the persistent foul fall weather of the past few days. There was a place for that for juniors at RFH back in the day.

Outtake: Retro Cheer for a Class of ’78 40th Reunion

“Hey, purple! Hey, white! You look so good to me! Hey, hey, hey, hey …”

Well, the time is drawing nearer for classmates and clowns alike from the RFH Class of ’78 to be reunited at their 40th (ouch) reunion.

The class was known as a particularly friendly, fun bunch. Studious, too. Hmmmm …

Well, March has arrived, and baseball season will soon be sliding into its RFH home base. The RFH calendar, in fact shows that the there are two home varsity games on the calendar for March 10.

So, it stands to reason that the Retro Pic of the (George) Day should take a closer look back, from another vantage point, of a 1970s RFH game — the dugout.

Spring is coming and baseball season is starting soon at RFH. In fact, the first varsity games are set for March 10.

So, to honor the start of the season and all hopes for a home run of one, the Retro Pic of the (George) Day takes a look back to the 1970s and with a well known RFH alum getting into the swing of things.

Recognize #22 and remember what his stats were? Hey, batter, batter … who?

Know anyone else in the pic?

And how about those uniforms donning the old RF instead of RFH and the ol’ pin stripes?

Thanks, again, to George Day for another classic RFH photo!

Retro RFH Spring Ballgame Antics

It may look like it, but, no, it’s not a Jets rumble …  And it’s not a musical, either. It could be the west side of the field. But a west side story? Eh, could be. Only the players on this stage know for sure.

So, a few days back, we revisited a case of retro RFH spring fever hitting a high pitch in the 1970s on the ballfield at the high school — or somewhere around there.
