Scene Around: Gull on the River Beach

Ever take a walk down by the river and feel like someone’s following you or even leading the way?

It happened today down on the beach by the Fair Haven Dock.

A lone seagull, seemingly having a little trouble with one of his legs, led the way taking a leisurely walk along the riverbank, picked on some food along the way, waded and tried to fly a little, but to no avail. He was getting around and eating and not fearful of humans.

So, he had a little company for his afternoon walk.

Good night and feel better, Mr. Fair Haven Livingston Seagull.

Focus: Waiting for the Sun Under the Dock

The weather has been overcast, rainy, drizzly and downright gloomy.

Waiting for the sun to return to spring has become a ritual. It’s the kind of day for rewinding to when the sun was out and casting shadows in a view from under the Fair Haven Dock.

Take a look at our wishful gallery of shadows and reflections on a sunnier day right before the rain from under the dock.

Focus: Fair Haven Dock Spring Sunset

“Isn’t it beautiful?” said a woman smiling and taking in the sunset at the Fair Haven Dock Wednesday night. “It’s just breathtaking and it’s right here in our back yards. Well, almost. Just beautiful.”

Yes. We agreed. And, no, it just doesn’t get old — the serenity, the scenery, the gratitude for it all.

So, again, and likely many more times, we offer the view from the dock over the Navesink River at sunset in Fair Haven — a little peninsula haven that is a sweet home to many.

Good night, home.

Focus: Sunny Daze in the R-FH Area

Blame it on El Nino.

Everyone in the Rumson-Fair Haven area got a taste of spring and then some with a good sun drenching and record-breaking temperatures hitting the mid- to high-70s.

In Rumson, it was so packed at Victory Park this afternoon that there was no parking within a few blocks’ radius. Things were quiet down at the Fair Haven Dock, with a couple of people and their best four-legged friends taking a stroll and a few teens out taking a run and jibing one another about some spring fever flirtations (just a little quibble over which guy “she” said hi to first).

Oh, and there was a swan taking a quiet swim.

Take a look. Ahhhhh. Serenity and sun now! Enjoy. Good night, R-FH area.

Focus: Lazy River Labor Day

As summer came to a close on Monday, the sun shone bright, the temperature was still soaring and some took advantage of some final seasonal moments on the Navesink River.

There were a few sailors still sailing, motor boaters motoring, fishermen fishing and some just soaking up a little Labor Day’s end sun on the Fair Haven Dock.

Take a look. Good night, Rumson-Fair Haven area. Local summer starts tomorrow.

Simple Summer: Sunset Solace on the Dock

Summertime can be hectic. So, there’s nothing better some an end-of-day solo time to unwind.

And what better place in the Rumson-Fair Haven area than the Fair Haven Dock as the sun is setting?

For that reason, the Simple Summer feature of the week highlights solace and serenity at sunset on the Navesink River.

Any spot along the river will do. This spot just happens to be a favorite for many. It’s simple and it’s one of those best things in life that are free.

The view is a familiar one, but it never gets old. Neither does its calming effect.

A Jazzy Night on the Fair Haven Dock

It was a night of music, mingling and moseying down by the river.

The final Concert at the Fair Haven Dock in the summer season was Saturday — right in the middle of a summer heatwave and in time for another iconic sunset on the Navesink River.

Jazz group Lakewood Keys Jazz Band played and locals and fans from nearby towns of the band flocked to the dock.

A jazzy night was had by all.
